WestConnex MOC5 Complex Building Construction

OVERVIEW

To ensure the safety of the community, workers and road users, WestConnex designed a central Motorway Control Centre (MCC) where motorways are monitored and managed 24-hrs a day. The MCC would be the central building for all communications and control of the project’s operational management control systems, and was constructed within the Burrows Road motorway operations complex.

Damcon was the preferred subcontractor to carry out the FRP works for the new multi-million-dollar centre. The project involved the construction of 3,000 square meters of suspended slab 5.20-meter-high from the ground using a propriety formwork system, eliminating the need for erecting catch decks for safety purposes in comparison to using conventional formwork. Concrete pours were administered into 2 separate areas and were conducted out of hours to minimise disruption to commuters.
